Authentification

Today, art is no longer authenticated on the basis of opinions, but instead on the basis of research, references, analyses, provenance and forensics.

It is important to obtain a Certificate of Authentication (COA) for any work of art you want to sell, donate for a tax deduction or insure.

A certificate granted by the Charley Harper Estate, is confirmation that the artwork has been researched and analyzed. It means that we have found it to be an original.

The art market demands proof of authenticity, evidence of authenticity, demonstration of authenticity. Not “opinions”.

Our institution manages and maintains the Harper Estate Archives. With these historical pieces at our fingertips, we can confidently research and reference Harper works and authenticate your Harper original. Please email us at CHARLEYHARPERART@GMAIL.COM and we will provide you with the steps needed to have our expert staff evaluate your works and determine if we need a physical examination of the artwork.

We also carry a selection of signed Charley Harper prints.

Consignment

We welcome consignments of Harper originals and other Harper works. Evaluating your Harper piece is made easy with some historical reference from you.

We will request digital images in jpeg format of your piece. Please provide clear, well lit images to (no direct lighting please), CHARLEYHARPERART@GMAIL.COM. Include any available information about the acquisition, date, signature, any labels, medium, and size (H x W). Within approximately 5-10 business days we will have information of our assessment of your work and at that point we can discuss the condition of your piece.

CONSIGN OR SELL TO US

We accept consignments and on occasion we will pay a cash offer for individual pieces and collections. Offers will not be binding and may be withdrawn at anytime prior to both parities having signed a purchase agreement.

Conservation/PRESERVATION

We make conservation and preservation a priority. Conservation and preservation protects the Harper Archives and the spirit in which the ideas were inspired.

Condition assessment - As professional conservators, we assess the current condition and make repair recommendations and/or methods to bring the artwork to its ideal condition.

Preservation - While preserving works we make efforts to maintain an object's condition to keep it intact for as long as possible.

Restoration - Our expert staff, during restoration, will use the appropriate materials to restore an object or painting to appear or function as it did at one time in the past. This could involve replacing or creating parts that may or may not be native to its original makeup.

Stabilization - Stabilization is making efforts to reduce and minimize deterioration. Our staff will execute the appropriate measures and materials needed to house your works in the best conditions and reduce degeneration of your artworks. It is important to display framed artwork in a well controlled environment to reduce the effects of heat, humidity, and visible light. Our techniques will provide stable conditions for your cherished artwork.

Through conservation and preservation we focus on maintaining the integrity of The Charley Harper Estate history and story rather than making the object look brand-new.
